The Design Element

Collage style sites are a joy to look at. It is no doubt due to the fact that they break away from the confines of the computer and create an environment that defies the typical rules of the web. No orderly boxes with text neatly aligned. It is like cutting loose. I can't wait to see how the support of transparent PNG's in IE7 will affect this trend. Imagine all sorts of transparent elements that could be loaded randomly, or in patterns, to create an infinite variety of effects.

I am looking for an artist whose work I saw a while back in a magazine (cannot recall which, unfortunately! A craft magazine? Mary Engelbreitīs Home Companion? I cannot recall)...ANYWAY...she made framed pieces using paint chips to "tell a story"---the names of the paint colors were all related in some way, and she titled the piece accordingly ...anyone know who this artist is or where I can find her work? I think she mounted the chips on blank white canvas or some board type base--then covered them with lucite tops to frame them ....

Susan, I have been searching for the same article for quite some time, it makes me wonder why it so difficult with the capabilities of the web and the fact that it was a magazine article, it may have been a decorating/design magazine too. I sure hope we find it soooon. The search is how I found you.
