Community Server Part 2

The Site Type
Welcome back for more Community Server lovin'. This still stands as one of my favorite applications to work with; especially after working with some other not so desirable ones lately. Skinning an application is always a tough challenge. If it is a one man show you become so tempted to take the easy route and just alter what is there. Many of these sites clearly did not take this route. Instead they started from scratch and figured out what they needed and created a design around that. Then they found ways to mash the application into compliance with what they wanted the site to be. As usual this was the harder route to go down, but the sites are better for it, and well worth the effort.
On a side note, posting anything .net seems to arouse all of the php zealots among us and I inevitably get flamed. I don't really get this, if I posted some Java application no one would think twice about. Another comparison is that if I posted a document for download as an excel file, I wouldn't get flamed. Anyhow, it just seems silly. So please don't make me delete silly messages.
