The Design Element

Historically crests have been reserved for kings and queens. But in modern days anything goes, and ironically the crest has come to be frequently used in rebellious connotations. Certainly not every usage of this graphic device is rebellious. But you will find quiet a few that fit the bill.

Certainly this can be used in real and meaningful ways. Golf Medic is a perfect example. Just considering the name makes you think of serious, medical things. When joined with the perceived class of golf. Presto, you get a custom crest that alludes to the medical connotations while clearly being planted in the golf theme with the giant golf ball.

More fun approaches find things like a persons head or a rooster at the middle of the crest. Certainly a bit of mockery, and just plain fun in this way.

I even jumped on the bandwagon on this one. My first wallpaper design for Design Meltdown had a fun crest.

I just ran across an interesting modern crest today: threadbanger.com. I like the ultra-mod cloud and using needles instead of swords. (Itīs a site for DIY fashion folk)
