Holiday Branding 2007

2nd edition — by Patrick McNeil — Dec. 26, 2007

The Design Element

This years holiday branding wrap up comes a bit after the season is over. The topic isn't quite as full as last year, I simply didn't find nearly as many examples. As expected many of the bigger retailers put up some holiday cheer on their web sites. There are far less small sites on the list this time around.

This sort of branding seems most used in an sales environment. Much like decorating a store with festive decorations, adorning a site with such ornament can encourage users to get into the sprit of things and buy more goods. Consider this a retailers effort to cozy up to the buyer. Sites like Amazon, Starbucks and Target got in on the fun. One unexpected sample is the USPS site. This site actually goes through quite a bit of branding, I remember when they released the Star Wars stamps and the whole site was branded as such.
