The Design Problem

Sometimes the homepage of a site has no choice but to be a fiesta of links. Portals abound on the web with the single intention of directing you to other sites with information you are looking for. But as a homepage turns into a mess of links to internal resources they become as complicated as a regular portal. Essentially these pages become portals to the site they represent.

Designing a page which is to be loaded up with links and yet remains beautiful is a daunting task. The mix of sites below managed to get it right. Most of them were laid out using css techniques. This is by far the more efficient and future ready way of doing it. Take a look:
