The Design Element

Minimalism is a relatively popular style. I originally thought it would be appealing because it would tend to lead to less complex web sites. The irony of this is that many of the samples here are actually done in flash and are animated in ways that bring these other wise "simple" sites to life. It seems to me that the perfect balance for a minimal site is sticking to the ideals of minimalism with just a touch of extraneous stuff to dress it up and give it something engaging.

neatness, simplicity, but not much minimalism.

dowlingdesign.co.uk is the only real minimalist site listed.

I hear what your saying Ed, when I look at so many sites these really did feel minimal. At least in comparison, they have very little that doesn't serve a distinct purpose. The least amount of filler possible.
