The Design Element
The rainbow color scheme is an interesting one. I can't imagine make the same layout it many colors, certainly sounds like a pain. But many of these sites are very beautiful and appear to make it worth it.
One observation I have is that by needing so many variations on the design by coloring each page different the developer is presented with a compelling reason to fully separate the content from the presentation. Perhaps it would be a good exercise to make a site like this, to force me to completely separate the two.
Connotations of a rainbow: Diversity, multiculturalism,
fantastic, light, happy, friendly, cheerful, fantasy, God, promise, gold,
magical, peaceful, pride, energy, power, comfort, fun, joy, enthusiasm,
creativity, and perky.
