The Design Element

Red is a tremendously powerful color. It speaks boldly and packs lots of punch. I also think it is incredibly memorable. The TubAtomic Revolver site is a perfect example of this. When someone recently talked to me about designing a site using red, this site imediatly came to mind. It has a huge visual impact, and is not quickly forgotten. This is in part due to the beautiful design, but I really belive that color plays into this more then we think. Red is confident and bold, and says "hey, I know what I am talking about and you should listen!" I am suprised this isn't a more popular script. You see the LightBox script in countless locations. Perhaps the Revelover script is out there, I just don't realize I am using it.

I think the point here is that red is not subtle, it isn't passive, and it certainly isn't tame!

Connotations of red: Patriotism, conservatism, Christmas, stability, power, trustworthy, warmth, fire, fun, blood, success, sacred, hearth, emotion, courage, love, good fortune, heat, hot, evil, hell, anger, stop, respect, vitality, strength, aggression, intense, high energy, danger, communism, passion, and of course Valentines Day.

I believe Red is a color to be handled carefully. Too much red on a site could have too much power and not make any good to the eye.
