Ultra Zoom Part 2

2nd edition — by Patrick McNeil — Dec. 19, 2006

The Design Element

As I mentioned in the first edition of Ultra Zoom, this type of site is one where you zoom in and out, or fluidly move from one section to the next as though it is one large picture or plane. The navigation doesn't take you from page to page, but rather floats and zooms you around the site. Something about this style is fun and fresh. Perhaps it is just the break from the traditional combined with the fact that this doesn't make it hard to find your way around ont he site. Many "clever" means of navigating a site only end up being annoying rather then interesting. This style has a nice balance of creativity and actual usability. When I say usability I don't mean the full blow web usability that people rant about; certainly people with some sort of physical limitation will find this type of site nearly useless. But if your demographic doesn't include this part of the population then it might be a style for you.

I knew a great example for ultra zoom, but i lost the link.
Maybe someone else can help me.

It was a site where you could browse throught images of irc or wiki i donīt know anymore.

All images where catogirized, and when you click on a image the image was centerer, and all related images floated around. It was a great experience!
When you clicked on an image wich was floating around, you entered a slightly different catagorie with other images around.

There was a huge amount of images, and there was no beginning or end to this webage.

I would love to get back to this webpages.
I have googles for it, but because everything was marcromedia or flash based, i think itīs very diffucult to google.

(i too formatted my computer, but i will search in my backupfiles, with thousands of favorietes... )
