FOWD, London, and the Book

1st edition — by Patrick McNeil — Apr. 23, 2008

I am not a huge fan of off topic posts, so this one is a wrap up of several things going on.

The Web Designers Idea Book

I got a proof back from the publisher to review and the book is looking fantastic. I couldn't be more excited. In particular I am pleased that very very few sites were cut from the book. This means that if you completed a release form for me, your almost guaranteed to be in the book. I was worried how many they might have to cut to make it work but it seems they are getting them all in!

I am setting up an ecommerce site and will be offering the book for presale in the next month or so! Plus, some cool Design Meltdown t-shirts will be available! Should make for a fun summer at DMD.

Future of Web Design Conference

I was fortunate enough to get to speak at the conference and I must say it was an awesome experience. Sure getting in front of 800 people is rather intimidating, but I think it went well. Looking back of course I can think of many things I would like to add to it, but that's the way it goes. I also got to meet a lot of DMD fans from around the world. I must say, I am truly blown away at the range of people the site reaches. Thanks to everyone in London who welcomed me!

London

In terms of inspiration it was a lot of fun to explore London while we were over there (my wife joined me). Despite a few...well a lot....of travel problems we managed to see a lot of London and really enjoyed it. The people of London are very kind and open to helpless tourist. For me the most fun part was noticing all the differences from American culture. Advertising is different, phrasing is slightly changed, everything has its own little twist. This all serves as a reminder of how engrained we are in our own culture and I shouldn't forget to expose myself beyond that.

And finally I am using twitter...check it out if your interested.

Looking forward to the book as well. I´ve been following the site for a long time, but I always appreciate printed material; it sounds like its going to be a great resource book. Do you mind if I ask what publisher is involved with it?

The publisher is F+W Publishing. The same folks behind HOW, Print, and ID magazines, and the HOW series of design books like the Index series.

I am excited to be on board with a publisher that deals with lots of design books, I think the results reflect it.

very cool. Yes, Jim Krause´s index books are very nice. Good to see we´ll have something similar as a resource for the web.
